Dash Goes BPU... And it's going be a lot of work! (Part 2)

We took apart the head and set to work on cleaning up the mess caused by those naughty turbos. It's a long and meticulous task, but certainly worth the effort.

Amazing what a little elbow grease can achieve!

Now all we had to do was put it all back together again, along with a new head gasket and new stem seals.

Dash wanted to make the most of this in-shop time by also blinging up the car a little. So we took the humble engine bay (pictured here on the right) and went to town!

We polished up the throttle body and a few other components. We replaced many of the dull black hoses with blingy hard pipes, and we sprayed the plastic parts midnight purple. Tasty...

We added a switch in the dash to flip between standard sequential turbos and true-twin mode. In true-twin, both turbos spool up at the same time, at just below 4000 rpm. While this is slightly more laggy, it means that the first turbo isn't spinning when you're cruising at 80. And because the turbo isn't spinning, you save on fuel. One customer told us he was getting an extra 100 miles out of the tank after the conversion!!

While we were at it, we even sprayed the dash silver to go from this...
